What's That Shape, Again?

Last week in math we reviewed 3D shapes, the kids sorted 2D and 3D shapes, played a roll and add math game with dice, played a bowl and subtract game with our "bowling pins" and "bowling balls", while I tested at my table.

Monday, we review 3D shapes as a whole group. We made charts for the 4 main 3D shapes we have been talking about, then brainstormed some objects we know that look like those shapes. Once we brainstormed a pretty long list, I drew one that we hadn't named yet on that 3D shape's paper, the gave the kids their own square of paper to go draw a different object on. Once they drew their shape, we came back to the carpet and the kids shared their objects and the shape it was one at a time before taping them on that shape's paper.

In stations the rest of the week, the kids sorted 2D and 3D shapes, played a roll and add math game with dice, played a bowl and subtract game with our "bowling pins" and "bowling balls".

Their first station was sorting 2D (flat shapes) and 3D (solid shapes) into two different columns on their paper.

At their second station, the kids used dice to find their second number to add or subtract, then used linking cubes or bears if they needed to, to help them solve the problems they made.

At their third station, the kids bowled and wrote down how many pins they started with, how many they knocked down, and how many were left as subtraction problems.

Easter Math!

This week in math, the kids did different stations that had an Easter theme to them!

At their first station this week, the kids solved addition problems, then colored a picture based on the sum. They used linking cubes if they needed them. Some kids just used fingers or knew the answer right off the bat!

At their second station this wee, the kids did an add the room with different Easter symbols. They walked around the room until they found an addition card. Then, they matched the pictures to those on their paper and wrote the amount of each picture in the box underneath each picture. After writing both numbers, they added them together and wrote the sum.

At their third station this week, the kids did a 100s chart hidden picture graph. This hidden picture graph has had the most numbers that need to be colored in than any other graph we have done so far this year!

At my table this week, the kids sorted 2D and 3D shapes at the table and I assessed 3D shapes with them individually.

All kinds of Math!

In math this past week the kids practiced subtraction problems, practiced adding numbers together, graphed our favorite planet and sorted 3D shapes.

In their first group this week, the kids did subtraction problems and wrote down their answers. They used a worksheet that went along with the laminate Missing Teeth they have been practicing on.

At their second station this week, the kids graphed our favorite planets from the board that we did at the beginning of the week. At the end of the week, we answered questions about our graph.

At their third station this week, the kids make 3D shape books. After they made their books, the kids cut out pictures of four different 3D shapes and sorted them into categories.

At their last station this week, the kids used donuts and linking cubes if they needed them to add numbers together.
