Recycled Art Project

We have started our Natural Resources Unit in Science! For science homework over the next 2 weeks, we will be making some trash art at home! I've had some really neat projects come in from pre-k, kinder, 1st and 2nd graders and can't wait to see what you make!

All you have to do is gather some items that you would normally throw away and create something with them. It could be an animal, a tool, a storage container of some kind, whatever you want!

You can even go above and beyond and write a little explanation about what you made, the materials you used, and how those materials started out before being process (like a cardboard box that started as a tree!).

Here are some examples from previous years of what you could do!

THIS WEEK IN SCIENCE:
In science this week, we will continue our Unit on Earth and its Resources. We will be moving on from looking at looking at rapid changes in Earth’s surface and the effect that Earth’s rapid changed have to conserving our resources. We will be looking at
how natural resources are useful at home, school and in the community
ways that we can save natural resources at home, school and in the community
the 7 different types of natural resources and how they are used by humans
the characteristics of natural resources and ways we can conserve them

RESOURCES FOR PRACTICE
NASA's Climate Kids – Navigate through the different activities on the energy page to learn about fossil fuels, what materials are helpful or harmful to our environment, what we can do to help the Earth, about renewable energy, going green, and recycling!
PBS Kids Science Games – Navigate through the different activities on the PBS Kids Science page to play games about the environment! The kids have been shown where to find this link to PBS Kids on our class blog page and how to find our embedded Symbaloo.
BrainPOP Natural Resources – Place this sorting game on BrainPOP (big BrainPOP, not BrainPOP, Jr) and match resources into categories. This goes right along with what we will be doing on Monday.
More websites and links can be found on our class blog page on our Symbaloo. This is embedded on the Technology Station page.

Thank you so much for your dedication to helping your child learn.

We have also been playing around with a new resource called Kiddom in class. It lets the kids see their scores on assignments, what TEKS are addressed in those assignments, what standards they need to work on and their overall grade in the class. It also lets them see their growth throughout the cycle. It also lets them track their assignments, what they are missing and when assignments are due. It is a great tool for helping our kiddos be accountable for their work and due dates! Students have now all been set up in Kiddom and know their log in information.

THIS WEEK IN MATH:
Geometry & Measurement continues this week with a study of perimeter and area.
Your child will be learning:
to find the perimeter of a polygon or a missing length when given the perimeter and remaining side lengths.
to use multiplication to determine the area of a rectangle.
Please see the new resources listed below to support your child’s mastery of these skills.
