Making Observations in First Grade!

This week, Science was part of our schedule! We had science activities on Wednesday and Thursday. We started off Wednesday by watching a BrainPOP on making observations.

Once our BrainPOP was over, we broke into groups and practiced sorting different pictures and objects in our learning groups! We worked on making observations and looking closely at what the pictures or objects had in common. Each table had different cards and objects to sort.

Thursday, they sorted different objects from nature in their learning groups using magnifying glasses. Each group was different. They had sticks, leaves, flowers, seeds, and feathers to observe.

Another group had bugs to sort

This group practiced sorting buttons

Another group sorted clothes and colors

Thursday, we observed in a different way. The kids' learning groups used magnifying glasses to look at different objects from outside at their tables. Not every table was the same. They had objects like sticks, leaves, flowers, seeds, and feathers.

Our Class Fish ... And Frogs!

We have some pretty aquatic animals that get to spend their day with us! They don't have names yet, but we have 4 fish and 2 frogs in our little fish tank.

Two of our fish are Red Wag Platys

One is a Black Molly

Our frogs are African dwarf frogs and they are tiny!

Our last fish is a Sunburst Platy. Hopefully this next weekend I can grab a couple more fish and a few ghost shrimp to add to our collection!

I also just found out this past week that I will be able to get a lizard for our classroom! Soon we'll have at least one bearded dragon! I hope your kiddos are ready to help feed it crickets! :)

I hope everyone has had a nice and restful weekend. See everyone bright and early tomorrow morning!

Second Grade Art Day!

Every class had their first day of art Friday! We all watched a GoNoOdle, which you can also do at home! (Visit the Having Fun at Home Page for more info).

The kids wrote their names on their papers, then traced their hand and part of their arm or waited for an adult to come and help them. Once they had it traced, they decorated their hand with markers, crayons and map pencils!

Here are some of the hands the second graders did!

Once we finish tracing them in sharpie and cutting them out, they are going to be hung on the wall for everyone to see!
