Happy Camper Summer Reading Logs

Thank you so much for those that have already sent in your Happy Camper Summer Reading Logs!  Please remember that in order for your student to enjoy the ice cream treat on August 30, they must return the Happy Camper Reading Log.  Some students were asking for extra copies today. I will make some extra copies tonight but you can also find a digital copy here as well.  Please turn these in as soon as possible to your homeroom teacher so that we can get you on the ice cream list.

What a great first day of school! We talked about the good characteristics of a mathematician, the good characteristics of a scientist, looked at our class blog, Class Dojo, talked about our first home work assignment for the week, and had some really great classroom discussions!

Creating a graphic organizer in math notebooks to tell about the characteristics of a good mathematician.

Tomorrow we will being our first units in math and science. We will be looking at place value in math, and fair testing in science.

Our First Day of School!

This first week of school went by so fast, but the first DAY of school went by even quicker! I got some pictures of the kids while we did our getting to know you game and drank our jitter juice.

The first day of school is spent doing a lot of learning new rules and procedures and some cutsie crafts to take home. The very first thing we do in the morning is go to rotation as soon as breakfast is over. So, after our hour and a half rotation, we came back to the room, did our date, day, month and year on the calendar, buzz book, then played a getting to know you game with balloons! Each balloon had a different question in it that the kids answered after they popped it.

After our getting to know you balloon game, we read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn and made a Kissing Hand card to take home and read with our families.

When the afternoon hit, we read First Day Jitters (which is always fun because they never guess it's the teacher with first day jitters!) and talked about what jitters are and some times that we may have jitters. After our story, we made jitter juice to help our jitters go away. It worked!

After we finished our jitter juice snack, the kids played in free centers for the rest of the afternoon until it was time to go home. To pick their free center, they use our Center Spinner that's on the board. They can only go to a center once each week, so if they've already been to that center, the have to spin again. That way, everyone gets a chance to visit all of our centers.

The First Day of School!

Our first day of school went by so fast! We sang songs, got up and danced, explored different things in our room, drew pictures, painted and played a couple games.

One of the things we did this morning in social studies was talk about things we should do in class. I heard a LOT of good conversations going on! :)

This afternoon before we left for the day, half of the kids got to do our balloon popping getting to know you game. The kids got to choose if they wanted to pop their balloon by sitting on it, stepping on it, with a pencil or by a friend. Then, I read the question that popped out of the balloon to them. Tomorrow the other half of the class will do their balloon popping.

I hope everyone was as excited about their first day of Kindergarten as I was! We have a good lookin' group of kiddos and I'm so glad each and every one of them is in my class!
