Place Value Strategies

This week we have been discussing place value strategies for adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers. Students glued an anchor chart into their math notebooks, then we walked through the process for adding and subtracting three digit numbers using this strategy. We also did examples on a blank page of our notebooks to practice! Here is an example of what we did in class.

This is just one of the many strategies we will talk about during our adding and subtracting unit!

Super Bowl Friday!!!

Friday we celebrated the Super Bowl by having a Super Bowl themed day! All of our stations were about football and we even had a mini Super bowl party at the end of the day during our helmet decorating contest.

We graphed who we thought would win the Super Bowl, played paper football, put football words in alphabetical order, picked beginning sound, matched the number of syllables in football words, added numbers up to 10 and 20, meausred football items, showed more and less, and played an addition football game.

At the end of the day we had party time! The kids ate their snacks while they decorated football helmets. Before the day was over, a teacher from another class chose the helmet with the best cutting, coolest design and best coloring.

Happy Super Bowl Weekend!
