THIS WEEK IN MATH:
Geometry & Measurement continues this week with a focus on elapsed time:  Your child will be learning how to:
●       add and subtract intervals of time in minutes in order to solve real world problems
Please see the new resources listed below to support your child’s mastery of these skills.
Math Resources to Help at Home
GEOMETRY PRACTICE- (THIS WEEK’S SKILLS IN GREEN)
Math Man– Calculate Elapsed Time using Sheppard Software Game
Time Intervals Word Problems - HelpingWithMath.com

Dunk Tank– Interactive Game from PBS Kids over Area of Squares and Rectangles
Area & Perimeter Games– A variety of games for practice with area and perimeter from Splashmath
IXL Perimeter of Rectangles– Practice determining the perimeter of different rectangles
Perimeter Shape Game– Shoot the shapes with a specified perimeter
Area Shape Game– Shoot the shapes with a specified area
Area and Perimeter– An interactive math lesson from MathPlayground
Geoboard– Explore Area & Perimeter with an interactive Geoboard from MathPlayground
Area Blocks– Cover your grid with shapes with the correct area and perimeter & race your opponent
Classifying 2-Dimensional Shapes– Interactive video classifies quadrilaterals by attributes
I Know It: Quadrilaterals - Identify the quadrilateral based on it’s attributes - Interactive Quiz
Quadrilateral Shape Game - In this Sheppard Software game, students shoot different types of quadrilaterals as they are told to reinforce vocabulary
3-Dimensional Figures - Slideshow that gives real world examples of 3-dimensional figures         Faces, Edges, & Vertices - Interactive website explores attributes of 3-dimensional figures and includes practice problems for your child and grades them on their responses.                                        Telling Time to the Nearest Minute - Demonstrates how to tell time on an analog clock.

THIS WEEK IN SCIENCE:
In science this week, we will continue our Unit on Earth and its Resources. We will be moving on from looking at looking at rapid changes in Earth’s surface and the effect that Earth’s rapid changed have to conserving our resources. We will be looking at
●       how natural resources are useful at home, school and in the community
●       ways that we can save natural resources at home, school and in the community
●       the 7 different types of natural resources and how they are used by humans
●       the characteristics of natural resources and ways we can conserve them

RESOURCES FOR PRACTICE
NASA's Climate Kids – Navigate through the different activities on the energy page to learn about fossil fuels, what materials are helpful or harmful to our environment, what we can do to help the Earth, about renewable energy, going green, and recycling!
PBS Kids Science Games – Navigate through the different activities on the PBS Kids Science page to play games about the environment! The kids have been shown where to find this link to PBS Kids on our class blog page and how to find our embedded Symbaloo.
BrainPOP Natural Resources – Place this sorting game on BrainPOP (big BrainPOP, not BrainPOP, Jr) and match resources into categories. This goes right along with what we will be doing on Monday.
More websites and links can be found on our class blog page on our Symbaloo. This is embedded on the Technology Station page.

Thank you so much for your dedication to helping your child learn.

Recycled Art Project

We have started our Natural Resources Unit in Science! For science homework over the next 2 weeks, we will be making some trash art at home! I've had some really neat projects come in from pre-k, kinder, 1st and 2nd graders and can't wait to see what you make!

All you have to do is gather some items that you would normally throw away and create something with them. It could be an animal, a tool, a storage container of some kind, whatever you want!

You can even go above and beyond and write a little explanation about what you made, the materials you used, and how those materials started out before being process (like a cardboard box that started as a tree!).

Here are some examples from previous years of what you could do!

THIS WEEK IN MATH:
Geometry & Measurement continues this week with a focus on area of rectangles:  Your child will be learning how to:
  • determine the area of a rectangle using multiplication
  • decompose figures formed by rectangles into non-overlapping rectangles to determine the area of the original figure using the additive property of area

Please see the new resources listed below to support your child’s mastery of these skills.
