Happy Halloween!!!

We had such a fun-filled Halloween day! We did an investigation with pumpkins of different varieties where we looked at their different properties, and compared them. We looked at their color, shape, texture, hardness, size, and basic appearance. We also tested their sink or float ability in basins and tubs. The surprised expressions of floating pumpkins was great!

We also looked at states of matter and discussed sublimation by looking at dry ice (but only letting the teacher touch it!) The most fun was adding soap to our dry ice and seeing the carbon dioxide bubble pop!

I just thought this was an adorable "living bagel"! 😊

Once we were done with our properties of pumpkins investigation, we carved one of them out! Special thanks to the parent that donated this pumpkin and the carving kit to our classroom!

And of course, we had to add some dry ice to the inside of it and watch it change from solid to liquid for a cool fog effect!

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween!
