Happy 100th Day!

Friday we celebrated the 100th day of school! We had a packed day!

First thing that morning we went on a number hunt around the school to match and color numbers and spell out a hidden word on our hundred's chart.

Make sure the colors match!

While we were hunting for numbers, the most terrifying thing happen ... a 100 year old lady came down to hall!

When we got back into the classroom, the kids rotated to different stations. At one station, they had to match numbers at the bottom of Hershey kisses to the numbers 1-100 on the hundreds charts.

At another stations, they had to dig in "moon sand" (shaving cream and cornstarch) and find 100 pennies to equal a dollar. It got a little messy, but hey ... we're in kindergarten!  :)
100 pennies adds up to a dollar!

10 pennies in each box makes 100 pennies!

At a third station they made 100th day crowns to wear and show off they're 100 days smarter!

At a fourth station the kids made Fruit Loop necklaces with 100 Fruit Loops!

That's a lot of Fruit Loops on that necklace!

THIS may be one of my favorite pictures of all! :)

Geometry, Length and Graphs, OH MY!

In math this week we did a few different things. At different stations, the kids made shapes on geoboards, measured different objects in the room, sorted objects by like attributes (things they have in common like shape, size, color) and graphed M&M's onto a pictograph.

At one station, the kids used shape cards (or shapes they know) and made those shapes on geoboards. Some made one shape and then started over, others overlapped their shapes. Either way, they looked pretty cool!

Many different shapes on her geoboard!

At another station this week, the kids measure different objects and placed them in order from longest to shortest. They measured backpacks, notebooks, glue, pencils and scissors. After they measured each one, they cut out the pictures on their paper and put them in order from the longest to the shortest.

At a third stations, the kids each got a fun sized back of M&Ms that they had to graph on a pictograph. At the end of the week, after everyone had graphed their M&Ms we answered the questions together. A few of the kids were able to read the questions and answer them themsevles! :)

At my table, the kids sorted different objects from a baggie based on what I said. If I said blue, they had to put all of teh blue things on the "example" side and everything that was not blue on the "Non-example" side.

What's that word?

Last week, we did a lot of word making stations. Some of the things the kids did last week were ...

File folder games making CCVC words. The kids had to get the letters in the bags on the back of the file folders, look at the pictures, and make those words on the file folder. The letters are all cut differently to help them match the letters, but they have to read them to each other when they finish to check themselves.

To go along with our space content in science, the kids had to separate real and nonsense words onto real (Earth) and nonsense (a pink ringed planet) mats, then record the words after they sorted them.

We hit spelling words hard last week! Some of these words were pretty hard to spell. They did a great job!

We reviewed some of the digraphs we had been working on from the week before last. For this station, I copied worksheets on colored paper, laminated them and cut them out to use as manipulatives. The kids had to trace the word, color it in, then find the matching picture that went along with that word.

The kiddos got to play ABCMouse last week. Don't forget you can log on at home!
