Day and Night

This week in science we are talking about why day and night occur and things that we do during the day and at night. Yesterday we watched a BrainPop on the Earth that talked about why we have day and night. Today, 3 of the kids modeled the Earth's rotation of the sun and the moon's rotation of Earth. Our "Earth" had to rotate and spin at the same time (which he did very well!)

After modeling the rotations for a review, the students made their own small scaled models with a paper plate and Earth and moon cut-outs.

We looked at real pictures of the sun, so the kids put the different colors they saw.

When they finished they were able to rotate and spin their Earth and rotate their moon.
Wednesday and Thursday this week the kids drew pictures of something the do during the day and something they do at night. After they drew their pictures they wrote a sentence telling me what their picture was about.

Friday, the kids used a Venn Diagram to sort pictures of things they do during the day, at night, or both.

Everyone's sort was different. We reviewed how we can see the moon during the day AND at night, some kids brush their teeth in the morning and at night, and we don't all take baths at the same time.
